  • Incredible

A few weeks ago I picked up, at the local Christian charity where I recycle clothes, etc., a coffee table book entitled Guinness World Records 2001.  I don't think it's the comprehensive all-inclusive Guinness Book of World Records, but neither is it a mere compendium of the records that were set in the year 2001.

At any rate, a couple of entries jumped out at me.  And no matter how jaded YOU are, I think you'll find these two records truly incredible.

BIGGEST COMPUTER HARD DRIVE.  The IBM Deskstar 75 GXP, which was unveiled on March 15, 2000, has 75 gigabytes of space, or more than 10 times the capacity of the hard drive found in the average PC.  Operating at 7,200 rpm, it can store the same amount of data as 18 DVDs, 159 music CDs, or a stack of documents 2 miles high.

FASTEST SODA CRACKER EATER.  On April 20, 2000, during filming for the TV show Guinness World Records. Vic Kent (UK) ate three soda crackers in 2 min. 6 sec.

I think that, with a great deal of practice, I might be able to beat that second record.  The first record will probably never be eclipsed in our lifetimes.

EDIT:  Already four of my commenters seem to think that they can beat the soda cracker world record.  I encourage you all to try it.  It's a cheap thrill.

  • haha, definitely something incredible about those records.

Saw you on Theologian's Cafe. I agree that another 9/11 is not the biggest threat that our nation is facing. We've got far greater spiritual warfare raging around us that's already bringing us down.

Good luck with beating that soda cracker record and have a great day!

  • Good morning! Interesting post indeed. Maybe you could invent a new contest rather than beat the soda cracker guy??

Hope you are having a good weekend so far!!

    God bless,

    Johnna

  • Well, Yum, yum on the way to breaking that record.

RYC: No, I didn't delete your comment.  Since when have I ever done so, even to comments drenched with rebuke?

  • hmm soda crackers huh?

    I smile

  • That soda cracker entry can't be right.  Maybe they meant three boxes.  I could eat three crackers in three seconds.

  • NFL = National Forensics League.
    It's speech and debate.

  • Damn...how big is a soda cracker that it took him over 2 minutes to eat only 3 of them?

  • I echo the soda cracker sentiment.
There must be something to them if it takes that long to eat three.

  • It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to break that record... So I think that it's a good choice of a record to beat.

  • that soda cracker eater seems kind of slow ... maybe I am just greedy! ha ha

ryc: The Americorp thingie is on a local scale. I have a few offers ... including one at my job ... my dilema is the flexibility because I need to finish school and take care of the kiddies ... which also factors in the pay ... I have some big descisions to make!

  • thanks for the comment. I am not a very quick writer plus I am extremely busy juggling 2 jobs -hence my xanga time is limited. At one time I probably could have been the champion soda eater of the world, of course I was 8 years old.

  • I am studying Journalism with a minor in English ... I may switch them around and focus more on English. I wanted to be a freelance writer (which I can still do in my spare time) But I am seriously considering getting my credentials after my BA and become a teacher ... cause I am a natural with kids. The other half of me wants to get as far away from kids as I can ... we will see.

  • RYC:  LOL

Not every day I see THAT question on my site!  Here's one that will give you a good chuckle! (Someone very dear to me sent me this a couple weeks ago.)

  • okay, the cracker thing must be a misprint.  on a day when i'm really starving i could eat a sleeve of soda crackers in less time.  that's cramming, but still.  i cannot, however, store that much information.

  • I have no idea - that is the answer to find this week, perhaps.

I think its someone mocking him. Or its him mocking all politics. I don't know.

    Idiot or Genius?

  • Going along I-70, the only stop in Illinois was Effingham. I kept thinking to myself as I was approaching it how it sounds just like "F*#$in' ham. But with no access, I couldn't blog about that til just now as I've come back. Maybe you felt that incredible thunder and rainstorm that seemed to last all the way from Indianapolis to St Louis Thursday night.

  • Hey John; RYP; 3 soda crackers and 75 GB hard drive .Both completely outdated as I sit here.I just ate 3 crackers in 33 seconds, without my foot on the gas pedal. Then,I looked around at my home pc network and here are some of the drive sizes. 300 GB . 250 GB . 120 GB . 80 GB .  Never mine the monsters at work.

    Did I win a beer?

     Hey John;
Ryc; I’ll start with your “if you were my attorney”. What you said is almost exactly what I told the police. This was backed up by nine witnesses. Not one backed his story. The cops obviously knew this guy, too. So good call on that one. Hey, maybe it’s time to get that law degree !

As to being psychologically healthy, I’ve been told that. How could I not be, with the support group I’ve had since day one? However, the last couple of months have led me to dealing with things that I was obviously unprepared for. And I’m not impressed with the way I’ve handled some situations.

Your details in the punch-ups you’ve had with those inanimate objects provided great entertainment. Although I know that at the time it would not have been humorous at all. Hopefully you get a chuckle out of it nowadays..

My goal is to never have another fight, to solve things peacefully. That is something that is at least a possibility, if I can avoid letting my emotions run my brain. But I had the same goal before this last piece of art took place.

Of course, the future holds the answer to that.

I must also mention your reference to your willingness to have been a blocker for John. He is still good friends with his linemen and his partner in the backfield. Every one of them has stories about John stepping on their ass, or their back and him going right over top of them. You would have fit in perfectly with your “style” of running.

Thanks for your insight John, as always. And the consistent good wishes and love you’ve been sending my family.

    Peace      Scott

  • I am thinking the cracker thing could be done.  But maybe soda crackers are really dry.  Really dry!  ryc  I quit using the AC some time ago.  It would cost us $10 a day and we weren't that cool.  We have an evaporative cooler that works quite well on all but the hottest days.   Which is what these over 100 days are.  By morning it will get us down below 70 if we run it all night.

    Tim

  • RYC...I'm thinking maybe you do as much if not more than I.

    God bless you Ecc!!

  • Stopping by on this insomnia filled night to say hello to you. Soda crackers hey?? Take care.

  • whats the record on the largest hard drive ever eaten? now thats a feat.  - justwondering.

  • ryc: it only took me a few minutes to come up with that list as I was typing it.

No to all of your questions ... and the last one was kind of funny.

  • I lived on soda crackers and peanut butter all last week.  I'm sick of them.

  • I don't even know what a dang soda cracker is.  2 minutes & 6 seconds for 3 crackers.  That would take me like 2 seconds to eat 3 regular crackers.  Is it 3 boxes?  I'm going to google soda crackers.

  • ryc evap cooler?  It actually works almost the opposite of the de-humidifier.  It sits (in our case) on the rooftop and has a large turbine type fan that draws air through water filled pads on the 4 sides of the thing.  This generally has the effect of cooling the air appreciably and sending it down into the house.  You have to have windows open slightly to allow this air to pass through.   It works well into the mid 90s but once it gets over 100, well it can only do so much.  At that point it leaves you sticky feeling with the humidity in the air.

  • RYC: I want to hear more about this Moot Court and O'Connors interpretation!

  • Soda crackers?  OH BOY! lol

  • ryc: I heard that joke before. I am nice ... but I will cut someone if I have to.

  • RYC:  you were close,  but not river, coastal.  very similar.

  • RYC: I'll take that as a "yes", then?

    Ba ha ha! You're funny! : P

  • ryc:  Um, ok I admit it..........I'm a dingleberry!  ha ha!  Seriously, I didn't know a saltine was a soda cracker.........I just thought it was a saltine.  ;)   Thank you for your comment!  Have I told you I love you?

  • THIS SITE is an OUTRAGE, mindless propoganda if i've ever seen it

  • Yes, Derrick and I are very lucky to have each other. As for having 10 or 12 kids, let's just say I would have stayed Amish if that was the plan! :)

  • RYchatterboxC: Thank you for your kind words.
