A Pravda Moment
Below is a link to the MSNBC/Newsweek web site. As pictured on the left of your screen, there are various international
editions of Newsweek tailored to the different continents. Wednesday's edition (I hope it still displays) has one cover page for
the European, Asian, and Latin American markets ..... and a different one for the U.S.A.Take a look at the USA edition in comparison with the others. All the
others have a cover that says "Losing in Afghanistan." The U.S. edition has as its cover "My Life in Pictures",
about Annie Leibovitz photographing celebrities.Do you think that America is in danger of being subverted by the "liberal media"? (Be careful! It's a trick question!)

I think the difference in covers is simply capitalistic. That other cover just won't sell as well in the US. Liberals probably already subscribe to Newsweek, conservatives probably buy it on a whim at the newsstand, as you'd buy the "Weekly World News". "Oh, Annie Leibovitz, that nice girl who takes those clever photos. Let's buy this heartwarming news magazine," says the middle-aged lady shopping at the rural midwest Wal-mart.
I don't think the US is in danger of being subverted, because it's internationally obvious that most media members who claim to be neutral are liberal. Conservative media-types are instantly labeled and basically accept the label, understanding that humans have biases and opinions. We're in no danger, and we need both sides in order to get the full story.
ryc: That was funny!
How interesting. What I think is this: America needs to get it's head out of the sand or their asses or wherever they currently are.
"In danger of being subverted by the "liberal media"?".....Good one!~ You should check out LovesTo xanga site. She has a clip of Barbara Boxer being interviewed by a Fox News anchorwoman and the anchor repeatedly interjects Bush's comments during the interview. It's blatant "liberal media" at it's best! Boxer even compliments her on her "fair and balanced" stance. It's pretty funny. Good post, Eccentrique.
The media has bias. But to claim they are liberal is just silly. They accept some causes supported by liberals while ignoring the progressive and activist end of their political party. I would love to see more about Sudan, Africa, the poor in our cities here but alas that only gets covered during an emergency.
p
The media is a problem in this country any way you look at it.... whatever happened to ethics? Responsible reporting, etc?
Ditto what QueenPicky said....
Oh and btw... RYC: "Thrill me! Please!"
Of course, I'm "justsayin....."
what? there's a liberal media? i missed it! damn.
Hey John; I don't think America is in any danger of subversion because America knows if they ever dive in that direction the commie war machine (Canada) will invade immediately. Liberals won't fight, EVERYBODY knows that, so we will steamroll to victory. Once accomplished, we'll import Castro to run the country, any Castro will do. Oh yeah, Americans will like the "camps" we have.
ryc; No winner was announced because it was ruled a draw, despite the fact we won the 2 major battles, and they only won once. Something about "teamwork, sharing the glory, blah, blah, blah."
My point was that even though I chose better players, we had better ideas, we worked harder, and played to win, we got the same rewards. Liberal, yes, but that's too socialist for me.
But I didn't press it. I don't want to lose my invite to the "real" getaway, now scheduled for sometime in '07. I DO believe in sharing a heckuva lot more than we do at present, as you know.
Peace
Scott
That is very interesting. And very telling. And I think it is interesting how the media organizations are labeled "liberal"... particularly when they report things that Americans do not want to hear. They are far from "liberal" in my opinion, since it's clear, from these covers at least, that media organizations play to the American habit of willfully ignoring what is going on in the world.
Just a way to assist us in further burying our heads in the sand. How sad. Thanks for the fuzzies:>)
