And so it goes...
Well, although the Democrats apparently took over control of the House for the first time since 1994, and gained a few seats in the Senate, none of the candidates I voted for got elected. Not a single one. This is what always happens. As usual in my neck of the woods, people vote for "experience" (i.e., the incumbent) over anything remotely resembling an original idea.
And the two candidates for state Senate - STATE Senate, mind you - spent a total of over TWO MILLION DOLLARS on their Senate campaign.
And so begins another two years of Business As Usual in America. May you enjoy yours.
EDIT: On a more positive note (I was feeling discouraged last night), the Green Party achieved official status in the state of Illinois, which means that in the next election they will not have to get 10 times the number of petition signatures that the so-called "established" parties are required to get. And in every community I've heard of where there were advisory referenda against the war, a substantial majority of voters called for a "rapid and orderly" withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Ten minutes ago, Donald Rumsfeld just announced his resignation as Secretary of Defense.
This administration will definitely go down in history as one of the most inept, corrupt, and criminal in American history. I'm just sorry it has taken a majority of American voters so very, very long to see it.

All we can really do is pray!
Since when did defending and building up a country a business? It should be an honor but that is just me.
i would have commented on your comment by now, but i have the flu. thanks for coming by, though. i'll get back to you later.
Since i have this in the "cache"[???] http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/state/15953809.htm
WAS tempted to vote against the Governator because i knew he'd kick ass, but figured i should support him in more than theory. Jerry Brown was a no-brainer...and if i remember i'll write a post on how i could've shot him
Should've campaigned for everyone to WRITE ME IN if they were unsure of a candidate...would've really screwed up the pollsters
same here, but i am sooo happy overall
Michigan was a state of incumbents as well. I was also pissed about proposal 2 getting passed. But all in all, at least several seats in the house and senate shifted and Rumsfeld resigned.
RYC: I missed you Ecc. I'm sorry I've missed so much here in xanga land.
I about started crying when I saw that Rumsfeld resigned. about damn time.
Dick's next.
Then we can impeach georgie boy.
adios republicans.
Democrats, get your shit together and do a better job, dammit!
None of my candidates did either unfortuanately there are too many people that prefer being middle instead of green and I live in CA.

I have often thought about joining a third party more aligned with my views but there is that catch 22 about preferring the lesser of two evils.its a hard call,i wonder what it would take to actually launch a competitive third party? i was tickled to see rumsfeld resign.
Ah Grasshopper...you don't pay attention so i'll have to beat you with this cain
---See how confusing you are? You're watching Bobby Kennedy in California. Your father, having taken the day off from his night shift job on Long Island, is watching with you. What did he do...commute from the west coast to the east coast every day?
You must wonder WHY Coltrane got a song called "My Favourite Things" since it sounds nothing like Julie Andrews
NOTICE the TV riff came first, therefore the theme is set to bebop around
But i guess, with me as with Honour Trigonometry with Ms Beinhacker, you blink and you're lost...
PS...just looked @ "featured" and see that CONDESCENDING TONE that the MEologian uses
Don't his readers realise he's TALKING DOWN to them
i just come out RIFFING every morning, not giving a fuck whether people get it or not, but NOT underestimating the intelligence of my audience either
By the way John, I reserved a copy of "Soul On Ice" at my local library..the book sounds very interesting indeed! I'll let you know what I think about it after I read it. Thanks.
it's Bjork. I chose it though because we have the same sort of hair, actually.
<---Lana. I keep a running total of who steals the least and that's who I vote for.
I just purchased Tempting Faith by David Kuo. I can't wait to read it, though I already know what it says....but then I'll give it to Number One Son for Christmas:>) RYC Mother Nature is my idol.
Good post! A new beginning is here for all of the world!!
RYC; First of all, John, the American people did all they could do on November 7, from my point of you, anyways. You know I am always ready to be corrected on American politics (other than the fact Bush is a lunatic
), but for the Dems to control both houses is big. There are more checks and balances after the election than before.
I think that your point on Bush abusing his executive authority is certainly valid. However, I believe it is clear to even the most partisan of observers that the people of the good ole U.S.A. have spoken, and very clearly at that.
I believe that if Bush mules ahead on his own, the people will NOT stand for it. I think a big point of all this is that there can be tremendous pressure asserted. And as there are only two years left for Bush, if he pulls any direct conflict with what the people have obviously requested, I think it’ll go like this:
1) Media response that ensures the people know he’s thumbing his nose at them.
2) The people respond with peaceful yet stubborn insistence. “We, the people, gave you a clear message on that!” Bush then chooses his path.
3) If his choice is to continue to abuse his executive authority, he will be impeached. It’ll be much easier when you have the support of the American people to get this done.
Just my fifty dollars worth, and from a Canuckian point of view.
Peace
Scott
my job is a temporary one that i'm doing just to make money for christmas. writers are not often very rich people.
yeah, the babysitting is to supplement my income as well. i am going back to school soon to become a massage therapist.
The really sad part of it is that even though everyone KNOWS how criminal they are, not one of them will ever see the inside of a prison or the wrong end of a rope.
"This administration will definitely go down in history as one of the most inept, corrupt, and criminal in American history." ~ I completely agree.
Travis was my best friend, disciple, brother, beloved and all around amazing person. Two years ago he decided his life was too painful and chose to commit suicide. You will hear more about it once I get my tatoo to commerate him.

"This administration will definitely go down in history as one of the most inept, corrupt, and criminal in American history." Would that that would be the case. But I think Americans have a tendency to soften and smooth over those who deserve to be known as villains. e.g., Andrew Jackson (murderer of countless Native Americans through his "Indian Removal" plan), appears on our $20 bill. Christopher Columbus (enslaver of Native Americans and even some Europeans, and such a bad governor and all around bum that Queen Isabella sent him back to Spain in chains) gets a whole holiday. And etc.
Maybe they'll have a special George Bush Holiday where all the fans of the man can get lobotomies and be just LIKE him.
Do you know what lobotomies are? I looked it up. It is GROSS, dude.
I would rather be shot in the face. Twice.
I have to say that this was the first election in which most of my national votes and my local policy votes went my way.
RYP’s; Okay, I’ve had a chance to catch up on your last few posts John, and I’m a bit confused. In Eyes on the Prize, you ask your readers to “vote at least a few Republicans out of office”.
Fast-forward to the election results, and they handed you more than a few Republican heads on a platter.
I don’t want to argue, but I really don’t see what more the American people could have done. Other than sweep every position up for grabs, which, if it actually happened, would mean democracy in the U.S. would be dead.
Moving along, I like the report on the Green Party. I’m waiting for the day they come up with a complete platform. Not to vote for them, I’ve already done that. But to vote with a chance of them getting into office with some serious numbers.
And on some more … I can’t help wondering that if mybaddy had posted “the love platform” post, would Eccentrique have told him it’s a pie-in-the-sky idea, and that, sadly, humans are not capable of universal love?
Peace John
Scott
Since John seems to like the duo-comment ^^^^ ,here we go again.:)
John; Simply, I was addressing this quote ("I was feeling discouraged last night" (election night) )
I didn't think you were giving any credit at all to the American people who got out and changed what they could. My question was, and I know I could easily have missed something, "What more did you expect the voters to do?" I don't see an answer yet, but like I said, I could have missed something.
And with (5), I just thought a trip down nostalgia lane might do us some good!
Peace
Scott

John, YOUR quote at mybaddy;
"I just shake my head at the naivete expressed here, as elsewhere. What makes you think Bush is going to have a "harness" on him? He's a lame-duck President who is accountable to no one..."
Then, in the same thread, YOU write the following:
"If the Democrats want to, they can keep Bush so tied up in subpoenas and committee investigations that he won't have time to declare war on Iran or North Korea."
You tell me that myself and others are naive to think Bush now has a "harness" on him. As well as shaking your head at us.
Well, in Canada, "tied up in subpoenas and committee investigations that he won't have time ..." is similar to having a "harness" put on Bush.
If you want to be condescending coming in here (mybaddy) John, you should make sure you know what you're talking about.
Timeout: This can't be John, he must have a whacked out visitor fooling with his blog tonight.

ryc: Hah! Isn't THAT the point? It does take a lot out of me - especially getting my hips to turn over, sit, & beg they way they need to for some of the things we do (they refer to it as 'opening up your hips') - but I love every miute of it.
Hmmmm - that there is one statement that someone could interpret nine ways to Sunday...
None of the people I voted for won either - unless no one was running against them. I live in Collin County, TX - sometimes I think I'm the only Democrat in the county!
ryc: i know leno edits, but thank god he has to...
